Post stinger hooks?????
I thought i'd ask the question how many people use stingers with or without platics on spinner baits?

In the last 3 weeks i have missed more strikes on SB's than probably the previous 2 years combined I'm going through a bad patch, so i'm starting to think i should be using SB with stingers until i get my confidence back.

I did add a stinger when i was missing the hits and guess what, I caught a cod, BUT not on the stinger, on the main hook :o

I have avoid stingers mainly because the extra hook in my eyes adds the extra element of snaggin up and stu$$ing the snag.

Just interested to hear any of your thoughts on the subject.

I must be close to being served with my FFFC appretiship papers. :P

No way Wayne, we don't just hand those out willy nilly mate, you have to prove your almost total inability to catch fish over a long period of time to get in, or the tendancy to just sit in camp & drink piss with absolutely no intention of going out on the water for at least 1 full day of a succession of camps. But, once you are in, there is a little bit of leniency in that you are allowed to catch a fish now & then but don't get too many because the deregistering ceremony is not 1 to take lightly.
I will bring up the subject of your possibility of an apprenticeship at the next FFFC general meeting which takes place sometime in 2015. There will be many FFFC camps between now & then but official business is rarely discussed at these because we are generally too pissed to make any sense.
Enjoy your fishing mate & my 2 tips for the day, persistancy & perserverance, that's all that seems to work for me. 8-)

personally dont like em and gave up using them a long time ago, i also found them too snaggy and didnt like the bulk/weight of the big stingers & plastics when casting. Ive found im using sb's more landbased these days and id never ever use a stinger coz i dont like having to go for a swim to get em back :)

Thanks for the replies,

I'll trial it a little longer to see if i get more snags, or more fish :!:

Quanger, with only 4 months left in Victoria I don't think I finish my time. There must be some sort of concession when you and I both required a guide to put both of us onto a fish

Yes i have been of the same opinion that stingers are not reqired, mostly because a cod has a big mouth and if it wants a meal then he won't miss. That is assuming of course considering the right technic is being used ie correct drag pressure to set the hook, sharp hooks and rod angle etc. However when your getting hits like I was and then actually caught one in the dorsal fin (basically on splash down), I tend to think the mood of the fish is more teritorial than hunger and thats just fishing.

It is interesting to hear of others experience with the stinger hooks. I would say most if not all that responded have years more experience in the fresh than i do, so thanks for sharing :D

I use stigers with a plastic. I find it does snag a bit especially when i cast up into a tree
When i fished Mulwala in Jan i had 50/50 hookups on stinger and front hook so at this stage i am happy to keep them on.
While fishing out of a boat with an electric you are also able to get most snags off and continue on. If i was fishing bank like Jules i would not have one on either as he said

I don't normally use them for the same reasons above . Best advice is to keep it simple. I like the ala naturallle SB. There are times when the fish are really aggressive where a stinger will really help but usually avoid them as the extra problems they give put me off.
