Re: Self Centering Rollers ?? do they work ???
G'day Angry,
I purchased one about 4 years ago, its still sitting in the shed! Apparently you only have one as your first rollar not all the others along the trailer as just the first one is needed to roll into place and centre your boat. I have been a little hesitant to put it on as the thought of the steel roller on the alloy hull doesnt sound like a good idea but i guess it is only a guide and the weight of the boat is supported by the skids once on the trailer.
When i get around to using my boat again I will put it on and see how it goes.

Re: Self Centering Rollers ?? do they work ???
Boobs,
the rollers are supposed to support the weight of the boat on the keel ina Quinnie , loike yours & mine its the strongest part of the hull.
The Skids are only there to rest on & hold the hull from flopping over, you shouldnt put all the weight on the skids as they'll buckle the bottom & make the boat bloody impossible to get on & off the trailer cause its sticking to the skids.
Try backing the skids down just a frag & you'll be amazed at how easy it is to get the boat off,.....WARNING needed here , get the trailer in the water , before you let the winch strap go , cause it'll roll straight back off the trailer landing on the ramp !!

Re: Self Centering Rollers ?? do they work ???
Boobs , You really need to get that boat to me Infact I reckon next time I'm in melb I just might sneak past & steal it & bring it back with me Dont use a steel roller !! get a magnalene one . & Angry is right ,the skids/bunks are only there to balance the boat & the wieght of the boat should be on the keel . Angry , yes they do work a treat ,but you dont need one as your first roller . Depending on which trailer you have there is a couple of different ways you can set them up to make it easier for driving on . this is how we set up the V/loader system for Craig & Rachelle you'll note that the self centre roller is located past the flipper skids ! This is the same system I have on mine aswell & since doing that it has made driving on a breeze . The kicker here is that the standard flipper skid system that telwater use is useless. They use hollow skids & more often than not the skids dont overhang the rollers so that they can drop the keel onto the roller like in these shots of Craigs boat before I put solid skids on it [img][img][/img][/img] [img][img][/img][/img] you can see in those pics where the keel has been getting hung up between the flipper & the roller . In the first pic you can see that I've recessed the new solid skids so that they slighty overhang the rollers which makes it near impossible for the keel to get caught . Thats the V loader system ! , however a lot of quinnies & stacers are not on V/loaders & just have the pissy hollow flipper skids at the rear roller & tend to get caught up between the roller & flipper skids ! thats why I made a the bow catcher system , so they can be retrofitted to do the same thing as the v/loader ! Mind you if you put solid flippers on & make sure they over hang the roller then the flippers will send the keel down to the roller ! Hope I havent confused ya & have helped somewhat cheers AL

Re: Self Centering Rollers ?? do they work ???
Hey Al,
When i had my 475 quintrex & was having trouble driving it on & getting it off the bloody trailer my local dealer told me that rollers are for rolling & skids are for sitting ?? so in other words the rollers should only let the boat roll onto the skids & that there shoundnt be any wait on the rollers once the boat was fully on the trailer, But yeh i had the same problems as the last picture it always got caught between the skid & the rollers and used to dig into the keel apparently it is up to the dealer to set the trailer up when they recieve them from Quintrex mine was the std Dumbier trailer im thinking this is the case because my brother had the same Quintrex hull & trailer bought from a different dealer & his drives on with out any problems & its 7 years old now.
Cheers Rob.

Re: Self Centering Rollers ?? do they work ???
Mine goes on alright but half way on the nose gets the wonders & cause Ive got a Boatcath on the bow it needs to slot the eye in the latch so it aint got more than 2" off centre right up the front I put two bits of nylon that stick strainght up as a guide to catch the node & straighten it just before it goes into the catch.
But it when the nose gets between the guards & right to the front of the trailer that it gets the wonders.
Ive put 2 x 75x60x6mm Gal Angle iron straight down the centre & have rollers every foot, that made a big difference, & I also have 2 lots of Flipper skids to get it back onto the rollers, which I made from solid nylon/plastic, its just the bt in the middle & the the fact that Ive gotta fix the 60degree guide in front of the mudguard that MY MATE SNAPPED OFF !!!!!!
Anyways I think Ill try 3 or so self centering rollers in the middle
Al, Im gunna infringe your copyright on the catcher too ! Thanks boys

Rob , Quite simply ,your dealer's wrong the keel is the strongest part of the boat & trailers should be set up so that the weight of the boat is carried evenly on the centre rollers ! Your problem with the keel getting caught up is exactly what I was talikng about in my first post No offence to you Rob but your quinnie dealer is a dickhead if he thiks the weight should be carried on the plastic bunks cheers AL Cheers Rob.
