RESULTS- FINAL ROUND CVLCSS
FINAL ROUND OF THE CVLCSS
TORRUMBARRY ON THE MURRAY RIVER
We welcomed 54 competitors to the final round of the CVLCSS held at Torrumbarry on the mighty Murray river. The registration area was situated back in the forest off the river which made a great campsite with plenty of room for everyone. There were a few fishy tales told around the campfire on both the Friday and Saturday nights, with those arriving early on Friday being put to sleep with the light patter of rain on their swags.
Now to the fishing and unfortunately all we can say is that is was extremely tough! The weather was cool, the wind was gusty in some sections and the water temp was a fresh 10'C. Not a fish was landed for the day and the best story going around was a small yella dropped at the boat that wouldn't have made legal size. As the story goes, "that's fishing" and you don't know until you have tried. The round's prize money has been put away for next year (we will keep you posted as to our plans fo that) and the prize boards were split up and added to our lucky entry draw.
Our overall series champion went to 19 year old Cameron Smith, who competed in 3 rounds using a kayak. He was a very popular winner and it was great to see him bring along his Dad, who also fished out of a kayak. The champion was presented with our "OUTLAW" trophy and received a fantastic sunglasses pack from "SPOTTERS". "SPOTTERS" specialize in fishing eyewear.
One of the most talked about prizes of the year was the "CODMAC" fishing tour and prize pack for the biggest cod. This went to Dean Hodge of Ballarat. Dean will spend a weekend fishing with big cod expert Rod MacKenzie, whilst being kindly escorted by the CVLCSS co-ordinators. Second biggest cod was caught by Dan Fitzgerald. He received a "BALLISTA" lure pack and a Shimano rod from "MOLIN MARINE OF KOONDROOK". Best average of the series was awarded to Rod McNeight. His prize pack included a bimini from "JOHNSON AUTO & MARINE MARYBOROUGH" and a "BALLISTA" lure pack. The most consistent fisherman went to Chris Schroder. He received a swag made and donated by Matthew Preist of Bendigo and a "BALLISTA" lure pack.
As there were no fish landed, our last round qualifiers "FISHOFF" winner was produced by raffle. All qualifiers were in attendance and the lucky name drawn out of the hat was Wayne Palmer of Croydon. This was a major prize donated by "BENDIGO MARINE". Wayne took home a colour Lowrance sounder, which is probably already mounted to his boat.
We are very proud to say tht everyone who stayed for the presentations was able to take something home. No one was left out and this can only happen because of our generous sponsors. "MOLIN MARINE" donated x2 $50 gift vouchers, "KINSTON LURES" gave us x6 brag mats, "CODSEEKER" supplied a $100 gift voucher and the list goes on as all the sponsors were involved.
The fish stocking raffle went to a new level with $457 being raised. This was a great effort and we thank those who are prepared to dig into their pockets to put back into our great sport. The raffle prizes on offer included "OUTLAW" spinnerbaits, a tackle bag from "TRELLYS TACKLEWORLD", "ASSASSIN" spinnerbaits, PFD from "JOHNSONS MARINE" magazine subscriptions from "NORTH EAST ANGLER" and a Shimano Bandit Series rod donated by John Lewis of Shepparton.
Brad Day of "LBM POPPERS" brought along a display of his lures and made himself available for any questions regarding his style of surface fishing. A big thanks for him coming along.
A new award we recognized this year was the co-ordinators choice award. This was awarded to the competitor thought to have gone out of their way to help in the success of the CVLCSS. John Lewis of Shepparton was chosen as the standout, but we do stress he was not alone and we appreciated the help of many over the course of the series. To thank him, he received a Daiwa spinning reel donated by "VIC FISHING MONTHLY MAGAZINE" and a "BALLISTA" lure pack.
Now that the second series of CVLCSS has come to an end, we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has come along and fished with us. It has been a very enjoyable experience and we can't wait for series three. We were both very humbled when presented with the gift vouchers from Trellys Tackleworld, something we didn't expect and caught us short of wods for a moment, thankyou. But, the biggest thing we want everyone to remember is the list of sponsors you see at the end of this page. They are the ones putting back into our much loved sport, so please where ever possible give them your support.
Kind Regards Jarrod & Mick
