CENTRAL VIC LURE CASTERS SUPER SERIES
ROUND 4 RESULTS, GOULBURN RIVER, MITCHELLTON

After what seemed like ages after the cancellation of round 3, we finally arived at round 4 of the CVLCSS. After travelling to various locations, making a few phone calls and lots of discussion, the decision was made and the site was set for Mitchellton on the Goulburn river. The weather was great and the water was dirty, but quite fishable. Surprisingly the current was not strong as some boats were even pushed upstream with the mild breeze in places.

We attracted 40 competitors, which included 7 juniors and 11 new fishos. This looks to make a really strong finish for the remaining two rounds with some past anglers missing this round already stating their enthusiasm.

In total there were 17 fish landed, which brought a broad smile to the organizer's faces. Ten murray cod, three yellowbelly, three redfin and one carp were recorded. Very pleasing to see the green fish being the majority. There was no real trend to the catches with spinnerbaits, hardbodies and crankbaits all taking fish.

First prize went to a newcomer, Cameron Smith, who managed to lure two cod and one yella for a toal of 177 points using outlaw spinnerbaits. One unique feature of Cameron's win was the fact he was the sole pilot of a kayak. An effort that didn't go unnoticed by the other competitors. Obviously the bonus electric motor brand pack from Bendigo Marine didn't go off! Runner-up was Dean Hodge on 137 points (2 cod, 1 reddie) and third place was Brad Roberts on 97 points (1 cod, 1 yella). All placegetters are now qualified for the last round fish off, with Rod McNeight and Dan Fitzgerald also making the cut.

The jackpot from round 2 for the biggest native fish was collected by Dean Hodge. Dean caught and released a 60cm murray cod which earned him the tidy sum of $740! The fish fell to a lipless crankbait on the cast. Dean is now also the frontrunner to win the Rod McKenzie (CODMAC) two day fishing trip.

The fishstocking fund raiser continues to roll on very nicely with $159.20 being added to the kitty. This brings the total to $502.90. This round we were lucky enough to be able to give away 4 fanastic prizes for the raffle. Generously donated were a Shimano soft plastics spinning combo from MOLIN'S MOTORCYCLE AND MARINE, $51 gift voucher from KINSTON LURES and three OUTLAW SPINNERBAITS. The days fishing with the boys from CVLCSS using the range from GULLY BAITS was collected by Rod McNeight. He will also get to customize five GULLY BAITS for himself to take home.

It still surprises us how forthcoming and generous our sponsors are. We were able to give away an incredible 18 lucky draw prizes. Please if you come along to our series and you are in the market for some new fishing/boating/camping gear, scroll down and have a look at the people that help us make it happen.

Last year's overall series winner, Scott Howlett, was able to attend his first round for series two and was presented with the inaugural trophy. The two brag mats from KINSTON LURES for the first two online registrations went to David Davis and Tom McCullough.

Fisheries Victoria made an appearance and we provided them with the catch results for the day. This information will be used as they research the effect of restocking in the Nagambie area. The officer involved was very impressed with the way all competitors conducted themselves around the public campsite. The CVLCSS thank evryone for this perception, as it seems to reflect itself at every round.

Round five is only six weeks away, so check your diaries, write it on the calender and keep that weekend free. The BBQ will be on again with meat supplied by VEOLIA ENVIRONMENTAL and the kids can grab a mars bar at the rego table. We hope all that came along had an enjoyable day. Cross our fingers that the rivers continue to settle down and the finer details for the next round will posted asap.

Regards Jarrod & Mick
