Post best yella rod
hey guys, im gonna target yellas a little more now and am struggling to know what weight rod to get. i have heaps of cod rods. and some real light rods but not sure if their suitable for yellas. is 2-5 kg a good weight? im thinking spin and not baitcaster to make it easier to cast smaller lighter lures. thoughts?

Chris , I reckon a nice spin rod like your talking about wins hands down with lighter lures you'd be using and with big benifts in the wind. Get the best reel you can afford, ball bearings and anti reverse ect and match it to a rod. I'd go to a 2-4 kg rod 5"6' with a cork handle for your own "custom combo" off the shelf. FILL IT WITH BRAID ;) with FLOURO LEADER and If your like me practise casting with your off hand so as not to change hands on the lures drop. I fish the irrigation channels alot (perk of the job)and now only use spin rod to cast because i HAVE to with the wind tunnel effect you can get up the water. same happens up the river. Good to have one in your rod locker. Good luck 8-)
ps, just make sure your rod guides and reel are compatable with braid

Lighter rods are good for Yellas, 10lb braid is all you need in most situations. I have a loomis BCR802 for baitcast, great for jackals, medium hard bodies and small spinnerbaits. I also have a Carrot Stick as a spining rod, ideal for smaller hardbodies and great for soft plastics also.
