Re: What Tye of Rifle to Buy
Heavy barrelled thumbhole stocked weatherby, sounds sexy Brett. What scope did you get for it? A big Leupold maybe?

Mazza
If I had the time I would mate. Been hounded for years about go there. I barely get one weekend a month off with work mate. Between work, spinnerbaits and having custody of kids 3 nights a week, I barely get time for a fish or hunt atm.

No worries Brett, looks like you didn't need a lot of help choosing an outfit I reckon you made a good choice all round. Hope you have a lot of fun with the new toy, Cheers

Re: What Tye of Rifle to Buy
I got a bit of advice from some people I know that do a bit of shooting. Went down the local dealer and had a look at a few. I liked the feel of the Weatherby with the thumb hole. He had a 15% discount for his stock items. Then it was a toss up between a 223 or 22-250 (he had both in stock). I was always looking at a 223 to start with so went with it.
The next purchase will be something a bit bigger, 270, 308 or 30-06. Looking at a 270 Tikka, but will seek more advice before hand.
Cheers...Brett

Re: What Tye of Rifle to Buy
Righto guys time to ask for some advice. Its time to upgrade my 270 to something bigger for hunting deer, so the 270 is up for sale. I know this topic has been covered but i thought Id open it up again. Im looking at going to either the 300 win mag or 300wsm. What are your thoughts on the two? What brand of rifle would you be going for?

Re: What Tye of Rifle to Buy
I'm running a 300wsm amongst others, and can't say enough good words about it. IMO its way better than the 300 win mag. The guns are shorter, lighter, more pleasant to carry. They burn less powder, and if loaded correctly, are more powerful. Just.
The wsm was built to replicate and better the performance of the win mag out of a shorter barrel, using less powder, out of a more compact cartridge. It also recoils less, in the right gun.
The 300 win mag has a longer action, bolt throw etc, so its more suited to a larger built person. The longer action means that the muzzle is further away from you, so maybe you won't get as much muzzle blast from it, but it will also feel more like holding a broom, than the wsm. The wsm won't get hung up on scrub as easily for the same reasons.
For brands. The top line ones all seem good. Browning, Tikka, Sako etc.
I have a Browning A-bolt, and will never sell it!! I'm a bit biased by having it, and personally don't like the Tikka T3's. But thats just my opinion, i know a lot of blokes that love their T3's.
