Post Mulloway madness
I heard a bit of a whisper the Mulloway are going nuts at Nelson. A couple of our members are heading there tomorrow so hopefully they get onto a few. They say its the best it has fished in over twenty years?

Boobs one or two pieces of advice. Hang on they go like the clappers. Also dont go to close to the rocks near the river mouth. Me and me Dad nearly rolled his sea boat down there one day in the fast current. Have fun and let us no how you go. Drop in at the boat hire place they will let you now what the go is down there about were to fish. Mal.

The Glenelg is a fantastic place. I had my best ever bream sesssion down there back in July. I reckon we got 100+ fish on SP's & blades in 1 day  8-)
Unfortunately the mullies had shut down due to a large amount of fresh coming down the system but typically they fired up the next week

Good luck Boobs, they're blabbing about big mullies in the local rag down here so it must be true ;)

Bloody nice Estuary Perch in that river as well. I managed a couple of snaps in between the mayhem:

Post Re: Mulloway madness
Got back last night, had a good weekend learning a few new things.
I heard great reports from over a dozen diffrent people last week that the mulloway where fired up and that the Bream comp down there 2 weekends ago seen heaps of mulloway caught upto one that out up a 3 hour battle and the lucky and well experienced angler got the fish what he puts at 130cm beside the boat before it busted off as they reached for the net.

Saturday was rather quite, there would have been over 30 boats on the water and only seen 2 small bream caught up untill about 4pm then seen a few more small bream come on.
Murls managed one small bream saturday arvo.
We located heaps of Mulloway on the sounder in two spots and had a good cast and a short troll but no fish even had a swipe at our lures. The local hotel owner who is apparently well experienced and knows the water very well fished the same spot and he said they where definetly down there but just not interested and had shut down.
The water was very dirty, looked like it had been filled with coke, or bundy! (but Murls or myself never spilt a drop, promise!)

Sunday we got on the water for a few hours before pulling out at lunch time to get home in time for the big NRL final. In one hour we landed 4 fish, some half decent Bream and Murls got a very good Esturay Perch which would have been around 35cm.

We never used bait all weekend or soft plastics. the only lures we used where Eco Ger ZX40's and VX40's these lures are the go, so they say! but at $25each for a little blade it makes me think that jackells are not to badly priced! it hurts to loose one second cast of the day when getting it caught on a reef.

The other lure we used and apparently works just as well, did for us also is the Strike Pro blade which is very simular but $10 cheaper.

Using 6lb braid and 6lb flurocarbon leader was almost impossible at first! tying the leader was near impossible with the line been so thin, alot diffrent to using 20lb+ for Cod.

Nelson is a very nice little town and a pretty river indeed, was great to explorer it for the first time and I look forward to getting back there sometime and hopefully getting onto some mulloway.

PS. Wilbur, I think you may have planned your trip well if your heading down there in a few weeks. If your looking for somewhere to stay we stayed at the river-vu caravan park, cabins are $65 for 2 and $5 or $10 per additional person. rather old and cramped cabins but would be fine for kids and its only a 200m walk to the pub, boat ramp, boat shed and store.
