 Casual fish photos.
I thought i would start a thread for casual fish photos, old, new, different whatever. Whenever i look through my old disks for something, i always stumble across old fish photos from previous trips that i enjoy looking at, that remind me of great days fishing, etc...etc... Here is a photo of a good catch of reddies me and a mate had last summer. I love fishing for reddies with tiny yabbies in lakes.

A rare and endangered Mcquarie perch. I was truly delighted to catch this beautiful fish last summer. What a pleasant surprise it was.

 Re: Casual fish photos.
great looking Macca there Robbie, huge paddle tail, they really go. The NFA boys down here are catching them for the ongoing breeding program now moved on to snobs creek under the umbrella of fisheries vic. to be released back into the local drain. Jules can probably shed more light on that program than me.

 Re: Casual fish photos.
Yeah ive been speaking to Will Trueman, the guy that does a lot of the research for NFA. He explained a lot to me, and its all quite exciting. Here is the stream stocking proposals that the crews at NFA and ATF have put together. I really like it, and hope they dont come up against too much competition. Its a positive outlook for trout fisherman, native fisherman, and also the future of our threatened troutcod and mcquarie perch. http://www.nativefish.asn.au/files/DRAF ... oposal.pdfI have made a submission to both parties to alter it slightly in regards to two rivers. To give trout fisherman more of a better trout water, and less of a native water, and give the native more upland habitat. Only a minor ammendment, but both parties liked my idea.

 Re: Casual fish photos.
And your right Ray, the maccas really do go off. Have you ever caught one of these things? If you reckon maccas go off, wait until you hook a decent trout cod. They hit harder than a murray cod, and fight much harder, and longer than a murray cod. I have been speaking to the DPI and will trueman and reported some catches of TC 3 inches long in recent years, and they have both told me that there is evidence of these endangered fish spawning in the ovens river. Prior to this, they have only been known to spawn in the murray between yarrawonga and tocumwal, and the 7 creeks at euroa, now they appear to have a 3rd and possibly 4th natural recruitment area, with the bidgee in NSW looking the goods too. This is excellent news. Hopefully these propellor heads can figure out how to breed the maccas regularly soon to save them, otherwise there future is doubtful with only 1 river in the state being regarded as stable, and thats a non natural environment for them.

Wang,
I live at Wagga on the Bidgee & trouties are in plague proportions around here.
Man they hit & play hard imagine hooking one about 15/20 lbs, one of the guys here caught one 70cm & reckon it nearly took the rod out of his hands !

 Re: Casual fish photos.
My door is always open Ray, bring your yak up anytime over summer and we will head out targeting murray cod. You cant target murray cod and not catch trout cod, its impossible. I was talking to the fisheries inspector the other day about this. I asked is it illegal to pose with a photo of a trout cod and he said no, as long as its returned. If you dont have a yak thats OK, we can take my old canadian canoe out. Just need to put my fibreglass repair skills to work first thats all!!lol It will need to be a tuesday or wednesday though, or monday arvo because of my wierd ass roster that i work!!!
