Post Re: 4.28 Pound Redfin
I had the great pleasure of camping with fellow codseeker member Tapey and his family over the long weekend at Lake Fyans.

Having never been to Fyans before I was impressed with the place the minute I seen the lake. Plenty of water with open section and lots of timbered sections. I knew we would be getting a few nice fish into the boat over the course of the day.
We were on the water around 10am, myself, Tapey his gf Kymbo and their daughter Ruby. It was Kym's and Ruby's first time on a boat so the expectations were high and much to Kym's lack of confidence we started the day trolling some small lures and within about 15 minutes where onto our first Reddie for the day. Kym managed to land her first fish on a lure and sure let us know that she had one fish on the board and Tapey and I where fishless.
As the day went on we all landed several Reddies with a few just over a pound. We drifted fishing with gudgeon and minnows something I had never done before and all managed a few fish.
Just before we headed in for a late lunch Tapey got onto a nice Brown Trout which put on a bit of a show jumping out the water but it managed to spit the lure before he got it beside the boat.

After lunch Tapey and I headed back out for some more trolling action as the sun started to go down and it didn't take long to get onto more fish. We found one section that would give us double hook ups nearly every time we trolled over it and had a great time getting heaps of fish with a few good ones amongst them. We seen plenty of trout cruising around on dark and a few jumping which has got me keen to have a good crack at them in the future.

We could have stayed out there all night it was great out on the water as the last light for the day disappeared over the Grampians. Anyway Tapey and I got back to camp around 9.30pm thinking we had done pretty well for ourselves and had a good story to tell but we where well and truly out done!

Tapey's mum's uncle, Brian Roche from Beaufort was camping with us and is an old bait fisherman as is Tapey's old man (Jacko). The weekend prior we got Jacko onto the idea of trolling for reddies using small Stump Jumpers out at Lonsdale and he again had a good few trolling session during the day at Fyans in between bait fishing sessions.
Jacko took Brian out for a few hours trolling before dark Saturday night and they got onto some good reddies and then in the middle of Jacko getting tangled up and snagged Brian managed to troll up a big beast of a Reddie on a small Stumpy (I had told a few guys it was on bait but I can confirm it was on the troll with a stumpy) The fish went 4.28 pound and needless to say Brian was one very happy man as where all of us to have been there to enjoy the moment with him.

Sorry for the poor pic's, where taken on my phone in the dark.
Hopefully have some proper pic's coming soon.
